Hi, how can we help you?
App features
ServeUp is a Shopify restaurant menu app that lets you build menu-style pages customers can browse and order from — made for restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and delis.
A menu page is a customer-facing page on your storefront (for example, your dinner menu).
Each menu is made of sections — "Starters", "Mains", "Drinks" — filled with products or collections from your catalog.
You can create multiple separate menus, each with its own URL, design, status (Draft or Published), and QR code.
Once published, customers browse the menu, add items, and check out through the sticky summary bar at the bottom of the page.
Yes. Each menu you create from the Dashboard is fully independent: its own URL handle, its own sections with their own products or collections, its own design and settings, and its own status and QR code.
A typical setup: lunch, dinner, and drinks menus — three URLs, three QR codes, one app. To let customers switch between them, see the article on linking menus to your Shopify navigation.
ServeUp supports four kinds of badges on product cards — you'll find them under the Badges collection in the left-hand app menu:
Allergen badges — icons in the allergen tooltip (tags starting with
algy_)Product labels — icon+text badges above the image (
lbl_)Product type labels — small icons next to the name (
type_)Custom text badges — badges with your own text
The first three work through product tags: copy the tag you need from the Badges collection page (e.g., algy_celery, lbl_hit, type_spicy — copy rather than retype; some are camelCase like lbl_fromChef), then paste it into the product's Tags field in your Shopify admin.
Custom badges are created in the menu editor: Page settings → Product appearance → Badges → Add badge. Name the badge, then add a value to the badge field on any product — that value becomes the badge text on its card.
Badges show only when the Badges checkbox under Product information is enabled for the menu.
Extra options let customers add extras — cheese, sauces, sides — with the charge calculated automatically.
Click Extra options in the sidebar, then Create option.
Enter a name and an optional description.
Set the rules you need: minimum/maximum selections and the option charge.
Assign it to all products or a selection (with optional exclusions) and save.
The option appears right on the product card. You can edit, disable, or delete options anytime.
ServeUp can show expandable details on the menu card — ingredients, calories, prep time — and create the needed metafields for you:
In the menu editor, go to Page settings → Product appearance → Additional information and click Add info.
Enter a title (e.g., "Ingredients") and click Create.
Open a product in your Shopify admin and fill in the new field under Metafields.
Products with an empty value simply don't show that section, so different dishes can use different details.

In your Shopify admin, assign an image to each variant of the product.
In the menu editor, open Page settings → Product appearance.
Tick Switch images on variant change and save.
The card photo now follows the selected variant. How variants are presented is set by Card layout in the design editor — compact selectors, a full list with per-variant prices, or auto.
For a browse-only menu — dine-in guests scanning a QR code and ordering with a waiter:
Open the menu, go to Page settings → Product appearance, and tick Hide add to cart button.
To switch off ordering completely, open the Summary bar tab and untick Show checkout button.
These are per-menu settings — your delivery menu keeps full ordering while the dine-in menu stays view-only.
There's no dedicated "hide prices" toggle yet, but two approaches work:
Hide zero-priced items: for "market price" dishes set to 0, tick Hide zero-priced products/variants under Page settings → Product appearance.
Custom CSS: in Page settings → Page design → Edit design, add a snippet in the Custom CSS block that hides the price elements — the live preview shows the result. The support team (via the Help page in the app) will send the exact snippet if you need it.
Hiding prices pairs well with hiding the add to cart and checkout buttons for a fully view-only menu.
Getting started & setup
Open ServeUp and click Create menu on the Dashboard.
Enter a menu page title and, optionally, a handle — the page URL appears right below the field.
Click Add section, name it (e.g., "Starters"), and assign products or collections. Repeat as needed.
Set the status to Published and save — the menu is now live.
Use the Download QR code in the top-right corner to get a printable QR code that links straight to this menu.

Sections group products inside a menu — think "Starters", "Mains", "Desserts".
Open the menu and click Add section under Menu sections.
Name the section and assign content on the Products or Collections tab.
Drag sections — or products inside a section — to reorder them; the storefront follows this order.
Use the status toggle in the sections table to hide a section temporarily without deleting it.

Every menu lives at /apps/products-list/{handle} on your store's domain, and the handle is the part you control:
Open the menu and type a slug into the Menu page handle field — for example
summer-2026.The Menu page URL line under the field updates live, so you see the exact address before saving.
Save, then click View page to open it.
A menu with an empty handle is served at /apps/products-list — handy for your main menu. After changing a handle, update your navigation links and reprint QR codes.

Copy each menu's URL — Copy the menu URL on the Dashboard or the Menu page URL line in the editor.
In your Shopify admin, go to Content → Menus and open your main navigation.
Click Add menu item, enter a label like "Lunch menu", paste the URL, and save.
Repeat for each menu. You can also group the links under a "Menus" dropdown using nested menu items.
Troubleshooting
The most common cause: the menu is still a Draft.
Open the menu and switch its status from Draft to Published, then save.
Check that the panel at the top of the app shows "The app is Active for current theme" with a green checkmark.
Open the menu URL via View page to verify.
Also make sure the menu has at least one enabled section with products — an empty menu renders nothing. If you recently switched themes, re-open the app once to confirm the green status.
First, check that the Badges checkbox (Page settings → Product appearance) is enabled for the menu. If it is, the cause is almost always a tag mismatch — badges need an exact, case-sensitive match:
Copy the tag again from the Badges collection page (e.g.,
algy_celery,lbl_fromChef).Paste it into the product's Tags field, replacing the old version, and save.
Custom text badges work differently: they appear only on products where the badge field has a value. Finally, confirm the product sits in an enabled section of a published menu.
Run through this checklist:
The menu is published, and the section's status toggle is on.
The products are assigned to the section — directly or via a collection.
Hide zero-priced products/variants isn't hiding them on purpose.
The products are Active in Shopify and available on the Online Store sales channel.
Hard-refresh the storefront page (Ctrl+F5 / Cmd+Shift+R) to clear the cache.
